Crypto-Asset Ecosystems and the EU Anti-Money Laundering Framework: Law and Technology Perspectives (Law, Governance and Technology Series #76)

by Nadia Pocher

This interdisciplinary monograph investigates crypto-asset ecosystems and their interplay with the framework to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorism and proliferation (AML/CFT). Positioned at the intersection of legal research and technical analysis, it conceptualises crypto-asset ecosystems as interconnected socio-technical systems. Building on this foundation, it examines how varying degrees of anonymity, transparency, (non)centralisation, and (dis)intermediation shape both challenges and opportunities for compliance and oversight. The book engages with the operational dynamics and terminological ambiguities that underpin current understandings and regulatory responses to crypto-asset-related risks. It unpacks the concepts of transaction obfuscation and traceability, and investigates the accountability implications of diverse tools and techniques – ranging from self-hosted wallets and decentralised exchanges to privacy-enhanced protocols and machine-learning-driven analytics. Through this lens, it explores the relevance of techno-legal trade-offs in system design, as exemplified in proposed central bank digital currency (CBDC) models. A contextualised assessment of international standards and the European Union&’s evolving legal framework – including AML and AMLA Regulations, Crypto Travel Rule, and Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation – serves as a foundation for a set of recommendations on how to holistically consider crypto-asset features in line with the AML/CFT risk-based approach. The methodology reflects the mutual interaction between regulation and technology within a co-regulatory setting, seen as a prerequisite to uphold compliance by (and through) design. Ultimately, the book advocates for a transposition model between AML/CFT risk indicators and techno-regulatory standards, informed by a risk-based taxonomy of crypto-asset ecosystems. Against the backdrop of rapidly evolving technologies, stakeholders, and risks, this monograph offers conceptual tools, terminological clarifications, and common discussion points across disciplines – including law, the social sciences, computer science and engineering, management and information systems. It provides a comprehensive foundation for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers engaged in shaping the future of crypto-asset regulation and compliance.

Neo-Liberal Urban Development in Post-Colonial Zimbabwe: Private Developers and the Emergence of Ruwa Town

by Terence Tapiwa Muzorewa

This book investigates the role of private land developers in the development of Ruwa Town in post-colonial Zimbabwe. Whereas other post-colonial established towns in the country emerged from direct public investment through the Growth Point policy, Ruwa emerged from a public-private partnership approach. The development of Ruwa Town is therefore a valuable example of a new post-colonial experience in urban planning and development, which is a clear departure from the colonial town planning which was premised on racial segregation. This book offers unique insights into the historical context, the role of private developers in the growth of the city, the impact of their involvement, bringing a comparative analysis with state-led development. It offers a valuable contribution to the field of urban studies, particularly within the context of urban development in post-colonial Zimbabwe and in Africa.

Anonyme Sozialität - Annäherungen an das Phänomen der Menschenmenge

by Krisztina Kónya

Physics and Mathematics in Musical Composition: A Comparative Study

by Stefan C. Müller Kinko Tsuji

How is music born? Is music made by humans or does it already exist and wait to be found? How do composers create (or find) music? Having these questions in mind the authors ask more questions: How can we share our feelings with other people when listening to music? Can these be visualized? Why did Helmholtz have a problem with the third? Why is precise tuning so important in European music and less so in other cultures? What are the differences among the continents? What makes dissonant tone intervals uncomfortable in many cases? What enables us to distinguish the music of Mozart from that of Beethoven? Why are we fascinated by birdsong? Why does some music survive, whereas other just disappears? And finally, along which lines will music develop in the future? Drawing upon physics and mathematics, the authors search for answers to these questions and attempt to unravel in some depth the enigmas of how our minds are affected by the perception of music.

10x Is Easier Than 2x: How World-Class Entrepreneurs Achieve More by Doing Less

by Dan Sullivan Dr. Benjamin Hardy

Expanding upon one of his high-level foundational teachings: Strategic Coach co-founder Dan Sullivan explains why achieving 10X growth is easier than going for 2X growth.Dan Sullivan, the world's leading coach for highly successful entrepreneurs, wants you to know that achieving 10X growth is exponentially easier than striving for 2X growth. Most find this idea confusing at first because simply imagining 10X growth causes them to think they need to do 10X more work to achieve it. However, being a 10X entrepreneur is nothing like what most people think.10X is not the outcome; it's a counterintuitive process you can apply every time you want exponential growth in your life and business. To make 10X possible, you must focus on expanding what Dan defines as your four most important freedoms—time, money, relationship, and purpose. As your time becomes 10X more valuable, you increasingly multiply the money you earn both in terms of amount and profitable satisfaction. As money becomes a tool you can increasingly access with greater ease, you will engage with a growing number of other freedom-motivated individuals. As both your professional and personal life fills up with 10X more unique and collaborative relationships, you will realize that your most powerful purposes in all areas become 10X more lasting and positive for everyone involved. You will be impressed by what your life has become, and the meaning and impact you're having.10X is fundamentally about quality vs quantity, and the quality of your freedoms determines the results you achieve.
