Artificial Intelligence in Ophthalmology
by Andrzej GrzybowskiThis book provides a wide-ranging overview of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) algorithms in ophthalmology. Expertly written chapters examine AI in age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity and diabetic retinopathy screening. AI perspectives, systems and limitations are all carefully assessed throughout the book as well as the technical aspects of DL systems for retinal diseases including the application of Google DeepMind, the Singapore algorithm, and the Johns Hopkins algorithm. Artificial Intelligence in Ophthalmology, 2nd edition has been fully revised with the latest advancements in the field. New chapters highlight topics such as the threats to the validity of the predictive system performance for ophthalmology, challenges in the deployment of AI for diabetic retinopathy screening and the use of AI in calculating the IOL power to name just a few. This book meets the need for a resource that reviews the benefits and pitfalls of AI, ML and DL in ophthalmology. Ophthalmologists, optometrists, eye-care workers, neurologists, cardiologists, internal medicine specialists, AI engineers and IT specialists with an interest in how AI can help with early diagnosis and monitoring treatment in ophthalmic patients will find this book to be an indispensable guide to an evolving area of healthcare technology.
Key Technologies for Safety Construction of Mined Subsea Tunnels
by Dingli ZhangThis book puts forward a technological system for the construction of subsea tunnel using drilling and blasting method. Taking the water-induced disaster as the core risk, the safety guarantee system for large cross-sectional subsea tunnels is established. The composite grouting technology referred to ground reinforcement and water plugging is established, which breaks through the technical bottleneck of subsea tunnel construction in highly permeable strata. The process control theory based on water inrush mechanism is created, which gets rid of the over-dependence on engineering experience for disaster control of submarine tunnel. An active control waterproof drainage system based on the synergy of reinforcement ring and support system is invented to solve the contradiction between the control of water displacement and water pressure. The above-mentioned achievements have been successfully applied in the first three large cross-sectional subsea tunnels in China, and have played a key role in the construction safety. The proposed technological system can improve the overall construction level of subsea tunnel, which can provide reference for the design and construction of subsea tunnels, especially for those crossing through weakness zones.

Rangeland Wildlife Ecology and Conservation
by Lance B. McNew David K. Dahlgren Jeffrey L. BeckThis open access book reviews the importance of ecological functioning within rangelands considering the complex inter-relationships of production agriculture, ecosystem services, biodiversity, and wildlife habitat. More than half of all lands worldwide, and up to 70% of the western USA, are classified as rangelands—uncultivated lands that often support grazing by domestic livestock. The rangelands of North America provide a vast array of goods and services, including significant economic benefit to local communities, while providing critical habitat for hundreds of species of fish and wildlife. This book provides compendium of recent data and synthesis from more than 100 experts in wildlife and rangeland ecology in Western North America. It provides a current and in-depth synthesis of knowledge related to wildlife ecology in rangeland ecosystems, and the tools used to manage them, to serve current and future wildlife biologists and rangeland managers in the working landscapes of the West. The book also identifies information gaps and serves as a jumping-off point for future research of wildlife in rangeland ecosystems. While the content focuses on wildlife ecology and management in rangelands of Western North America, the material has important implications for rangeland ecosystems worldwide.

The book situates the history of IB within the broader context of business, political, and societal developments, and examines the interaction between external and internal forces as they have shaped the field&’s growth trajectory, both on its own and in comparison with those of other fields of study.
Climate-Smart Agricultural Technologies: Approaches for Field Crops Production Systems (Sustainability Sciences in Asia and Africa)
by Akbar Hossain Biswajit Pramanick Shiv Vendra Singh Sagar Maitra Silvia CellettiThis book addresses the technologies that can be employed to tackle the challenges of global food security. Several recent studies have reported the significant impact of changing climate on the agricultural production, thus posing a challenge in achieving global food security. Thus, to mitigate these challenges there is an urgent need to develop approaches that may be helpful for the sustainability of food production. These approaches are based on three objectives: (i) sustainably increasing agricultural productivity to support equitable increases in farm incomes, food security, and development; (ii) adapting and building the resilience of food systems to climate change; and (iii), where possible, reducing GHGs emissions from agriculture. This book provides updated information for these climate-smart agricultural technologies that hold high potential to increase productivity, improve resilience, and provide efficient resource utilization. This book is a valuable resource for undergraduates, postgraduates, researchers, professors and policymakers in the field of agriculture, botany and agriculture extension functionaries.

Anxiety Disorders and Related Conditions: Conceptualization and Treatment from Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral Perspectives
by Christos Charis Georgia PanayiotouThe volume aims to instigate a dialog between the psychoanalytic and the cognitive-behavioral tradition on conceptualization and treatment of anxiety disorders and related conditions through contributions of respective experts. It presents current findings, and current theories and conceptualizations with regards to the mechanisms of etiology and maintenance of anxiety and related conditions, as well as innovative, new or experimental approaches to treatment that target core difficulties found in patients with anxiety. The book integrates basic research with conceptualization and treatment, while giving space for multiple perspectives to treatment, both psychotherapeutic and pharmacological, to be described. Chapters include a) conceptualization and treatment of anxiety and panic from psychodynamic perspectives, b) 2nd wave CBT treatment and the use of virtual reality, c) 3rd wave (ACT) perspectives, and d) neuroendocrine factors, and e) pharmacotherapy perspectives. Different theoretical approaches are presented highlighting the strengths and the evidence in favour of each approach, without promoting any specific perspective, but with an effort to highlight common underlying themes like safety behaviors and avoidance, social support, and role of learning history. In this way the book will present a combination of theory, science and practice aiming to be an excellent resource for researchers, clinicians and students of mental health professions.
