The Personal Distribution of Incomes (Routledge Revivals)

by A. B. Atkinson

First published in 1976, the essays in this volume are concerned with the distribution of income and wealth. The papers were first presented at the Royal Economic Society’s conference in 1974, which examined the evidence concerning the personal distribution of earnings, compared the distributions apparent in different periods and societies, and studied the association between personal attributes and income. The contributions, from internationally-renowned authors, reflect these areas, and address the questions surrounding inequality, the taxation of wealth and capital transfers that remain relevant in twenty-first century society.

The Book and the Blade (Arthur Crazy #1)

by A. B. Finlayson

A perfect story for fans of Gaiman and Pratchett’s GOOD OMENS, SHAUN OF THE DEAD and THE WORLD’S END. Arthur Crazy is drunk and seeing ghosts. This is not a metaphor. The dead are walking and talking, and it doesn't matter that Arthur doesn't believe in them. They believe in him. Too drunk to recall how he stumbled upon his nascent power, Arthur is burdened with newfound responsibility: he’s the only one who can hear the unfinished business of every dead guy in York, and he’s the only one who can help. As forgotten legends and lost demons stir all over the cobbled streets and snickelways, Arthur finds himself at the centre of an unfolding mystery—a light in the desert, a fart at a funeral—and he is about to discover that an unfortunate surname isn't the only thing that makes him stand out. Arthur just wants to sober up, have a kebab, and go home, but his conscience is knocking loud and clear, demanding he open the damn door. He may not be the hero the dead need, but he’s the one they’re stuck with. Besides, one of those ghosts seems kind of cute.

The Sword and the Hounds (Arthur Crazy #2)

by A. B. Finlayson

For lovers of Gaiman and Pratchett’s GOOD OMENS, SHAUN OF THE DEAD and THE WORLD’S END comes the exciting sequel to THE BOOK AND THE BLADE. Arthur Crazy was drunk and seeing ghosts. Now he’s just drunk. The dead are silent, and Arthur is worried he might be living up to the family name. But after going back to where the Crazy people live and spending months sleeping off hangovers in his childhood bed, it’s finally time to return to the land of the living. Unfortunately, the dead are not done with Arthur. The hounds are stirring. The guardians are moving. The Shadowmen are watching. And the sword in Arthur’s possession is calling them all. They’re on their way, but you know what Britain is like—public transport is a joke. Especially at Christmas, it could take some time. Some people have skeletons in their closet. Arthur has ghosts in his dreams and a sword under his bed… and everyone wants it! The dead, the living, and those dancing on the edge. Evil stirs in Yorkshire. Britain needs a hero. Arthur needs a coffee. On the moors, the devil rises. The Arthur Crazy Series is best enjoyed in this order: Book 1: The Book and the Blade Book 2: The Sword and the Hounds

The Golfer's Alphabet

by A. B. Frost W.G. Van Sutphen

The timeless humor contained in this book first published in 1898, and its concern with the ever-rising popularity of golfing prompted its current reprinting. The distinctive signature of A. B. Frost on a cartoon or painting is the cause of much excitement at today's art exhibits and more so when it makes a rare appearance at an auction. Original works of this well-known artist are scarce and first editions of the 89 books he illustrated during his brilliant career are fast becoming collectors' items. Frost's biggest contribution to the world in giving visual realization to characters in a book is his unforgettable drawings of Br'er Rabbit and Uncle Remus (Uncle Remus and his Friends by Joel Chandler Harris). He has also illustrated the works of such notable authors as Charles Dickens (The Pickwick Papers), Mark Twain (Tom Sawyer Abroad, Tom Sawyer Detective and other Stories), former U . S . President Theodore Roosevelt (The Wilderness Hunter), and Lewis Carroll (Rhyme? And Reason?).
Works by Frost have also appeared in Harpers, Scribners, Colliers, Century, and Puck magazines. Frost showed a versatility with humor in words as well as in drawings by authoring several books. In addition, he was an accomplished painter, notably of hunting scenes. These lesser known though no less accomplished works were compiled in an 1895 Scribner portfolio, "Shooting Pictures," many of which still grace household calendars. Upon his death at 77, Frost was described as the "dean of our [American] illustrators." His obituary in the New York Evening Post in 1928 further eulogized, " Down through the ages, when he and we are gone, his genius will twinkle on in Huck and Tom and Ole Br'er Rabbit. What price monuments of stone?"

by A. B. Gayle Catherine Delorme
