National Economics: A Systematic and Theoretical Framework
by Muxi Lin Taiyan HuangThis book analyzes the national economic system with systematic theory and defines the object of research as "the movement and laws of the national economic system." This book also proceeds a more in-depth study of the four relations concerning the reproduction. It examines the interdependent relations among population, economy, society, resources and environment, as well as the interactions among demographic reproduction, material product reproduction, spiritual and cultural reproduction and ecological environment reproduction from a dynamic perspective. It also explores the establishment of a system in which the four kinds of reproduction promote mutually, interact positively and develop harmoniously. Besides, this work pays attention to the management of the national economy and emphasizes the role of institutional innovation in promoting the performance of the national economy. It explains the connotation of institutions, their formation, their changes and innovations. And it dissects that the institutions, as an incentive mechanism, play a significant role in stimulating the vitality of human, of enterprise and the whole economy, which contributes greatly to the optimal distribution of resources, technological innovation and the effective growth of the national economy.
Conceptualisation and Measurement of Financial Competence: A Holistic Approach and Implications for Financial Education (SpringerBriefs in Education)

The work is instrumental for researchers, educators and policymakers in advancing their understanding and methodologies and in paving the way for effective financial education interventions and promoting financially competent behaviour.
Slit lamp atlas: Videographic Imaging
by Marcus-Matthias GellrichThis unique atlas with over 4000 images opens up new dimensions in slit lamp examination and documentation. In his "life's work", the author shows how the slit lamp can be used to depict almost the entire field of ophthalmology – from the eyelids and anterior segment to the fundus and portrayal of eye motility. This results in the first book in ophthalmology that covers the entire subject with just one device. Traditional slit lamp examination techniques are combined with the innovative documentation of ophthalmic findings using videography. Access to these videos is provided in the book. They can be viewed via the More Media app. Innovations: Purkinje reflexes functioning as "landmarks" for observing changes in the eye’s anterior segment–whether for the early detection of keratoconus or when assessing intraocular lenses The creation of fundus overviews, some of which extending to the periphery, using just the slit lamp and image processing programs Documentation of objects at a great distance by holding a minus lens in front of the objective lens of the slit lamp to make it less "short-sighted". This is useful to visualize squint or to take a picture of the whole face. Inside the book: Methods section on technology Imaging with fundus-, minus- and without additional lenses Image documentation with patient-histories of up to 20 years 780 cases, including 460 follow-ups

Political Marketing in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election (Palgrave Studies in Political Marketing and Management)
by Jamie GilliesThis book focuses on the spectacle of the 2024 U.S. presidential election from the return of Donald Trump and the decision by Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race and endorse Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee to the campaign sprint culminating in Trump&’s win in November. A follow-up to Political Marketing in the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election, it uniquely focuses on political marketing and branding strategies, with particular attention to how changes since the last election, especially new technologies and media platforms, have emerged as branding and marketing outlets for both campaigns. This election was again as much about a continuous strategy of targeting and maintaining voter enthusiasm as it was about swaying undecided voters, as both campaigns tried to engage different parts of the electorate. Every American presidential election tends to herald in new political branding and marketing strategies. This book presents diverse scholarly research and perspectives, with practitioner-relevant content that will advance current understandings of political marketing and branding theories.
Choreography of the Poem: Exploring Poetry and Prosody through Dance
by Richard AndrewsThis book explores analogies and correspondences between dance and poetry, with an emphasis on how dance and dance choreography can shed light on poetry, poetic form and the teaching of poetry. Chronologically, the book examines the Renaissance/Baroque period in Europe and moves through early modern to contemporary poetry and dance. Internationally, it explores Asian, African and American dance choreographies and poetry alongside European, as well as hybrid influences of the different traditions on each other. It argues that the poem on the page, and in spoken performance, inhabits space within frameworks of expectation. Choreography of the Poem accesses interest from the perspectives of each of the modes of communication: physical movement in dance, and spoken and written communication in poetry. It reveals what dance choreography can bring to an understanding and appreciation of the making of poetry in schools, colleges and universities.
Reconstruction Period and the Stages of Regeneration After a Great Earthquake: Experience from the Great East Japan Earthquake (New Frontiers in Regional Science: Asian Perspectives #83)
by Keiko Nosse Hirono Kazuhiro YaguchiThis is the first book to present concrete ideas and suggestions for reconstruction and creation of a region after a great earthquake, which the authors of each chapter formulated from their analyses and experience of the Great East Japan Earthquake. In this book, analyses of the reconstruction period and stages of regeneration after a very large earthquake are many-sided and are derived from the points of view of economics, mental health, social business, interregional risk-sharing system, city planning, housing, and industrial revival, as existing problems in the Tohoku area 7 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake. These problems are both &“hard&” (city reconstruction, housing, industrial regeneration) and &“soft&” (mental health care and quality of life). Several methods of analysis useful for research are provided, such as a means of estimating consumers&’ evaluation of earthquake-proof conversion of housing and a way to capture risk sharing of firms theoretically. Most of the authors of this book were university staffs in the Tohoku area at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, did research in the Tohoku area, or were born in the area; thus they have extensive knowledge about the region and the effects of the Great Earthquake. For those reasons, the recommendations given in this book are concrete, realistic, and effective in problem solving.

Perceptual Experience in Merleau-Ponty and Ryle
by Sâmara CostaThis book explores the most important works of two authors of contemporary philosophy: Maurice Merleau-Ponty, a phenomenologist, and Gilbert Ryle, an analytic philosopher. The two share many interests in the field of philosophy of mind and perception, but represent distinct lines of research. Sâmara Costa compares the work of these two philosophers, and exposes the interest in both of showing that there are some problems in the use and clarification of important concepts for the study of perceptual experiences. Concepts that have become habitual in explanations of the experience and have crystallized into a language that no longer corresponds to the phenomenon itself. In addition to this conceptual analysis, Costa shows that there is also, in both authors, an attempt to make a phenomenology of the concept, obviously in connection with the lived experience.

Chemodiversity and the Ecological Crisis (SpringerBriefs in Molecular Science)
by Adi WolfsonThis book covers the origins, transformations, and interactions of matter—from atoms and molecules to complex biological and composite materials—across abiotic, biotic, and anthropogenic systems. It offers a unique chronological narrative, tracing the evolution of chemodiversity from the Big Bang to the present, and explores how these material changes underpin the ecological crises of our time. The book frames the ecological crisis through three interlinked dimensions: the chemical crisis (pollution), the biological crisis (biodiversity loss), and the physical crisis (climate change). These are analyzed both microscopically—at the level of atomic and molecular interactions—and macroscopically, through phenomena such as air and ocean pollution, global warming, and ecosystem degradation. Through detailed chapters, the book examines elemental formation, ecosystem structure and function, and provides a critical analysis of the anthroposphere, highlighting how human activity has reshaped Earth&’s systems and accelerated environmental decline. It critically addresses sustainability, resource management, and the systemic challenges posed by the current human-environment crisis. Designed for researchers, scholars, and advanced students in environmental science, geochemistry, and systems ecology, this work provides a robust conceptual and analytical framework. It is an essential reference for those seeking to understand the material basis of life and the complex interdependencies that define our planet&’s future.
Art as Cognition: How Gist Reframes the Aesthetic Experience as Conversation (Synthese Library #521)
by Dena ShottenkirkThis book offers a different take on the aesthetic experience. Firstly, aesthetics has traditionally been analyzed only from the point of view of the viewer. This book does not do that, as aesthetics involves both a viewer and a maker; thus, a satisfactory account of the aesthetic experience would be one that was derived from both kinds of perceptual experiences. Secondly, this book focuses on the role of low-level features, such as texture, illumination, color, shape, movement, etc., in the aesthetic experience. Perception itself significantly involves these low-level features, and the sensory experience of aesthetics does so particularly. To explicate this, the book provides background information into recent findings in visual science that support this emphasis on low-level features, particularly within the framework of very early perception known as gist perception, which is experienced in the first approximately 300 ms. This gist experience is also viewed through the philosophical lens of sensing, which gives a framework with which to understand low-level percepts. Thirdly, the book concludes with a description of how the perceptual and cognitive processes of viewer and maker interact with curatorial/critical testimony in order to construct the artwork&’s meaning. Thus, art is seen as a kind of conversation.

Ancient African Futures: Systemic Constellations Practice a Decolonial Poetics (Palgrave Studies in Decolonisation and Grassroots Black Organic Intellectualism)
by Stuart TaylorAncient African Futures provides a creative and critical account of the history and form(s) of systemic constellations practice (SCP) applying a decolonial lens, emphasizing the profound significance of Zulu epistemology on its origins. The volume opens with an autoethnographic account of the author&’s African diasporan / European identity and its bearing within the SCP profession. It offers a summary introduction to SCP as a discrete modality of Western psychotherapy, commonly accepted as the creation of Anton Hellinger, a German national. Hellinger was a Jesuit missionary priest in South Africa during the 1950-1960s. The author argues that this colonial phenomenon and Hellinger himself, are emblematic of the European Imperial project. The volume scrutinises this historic-contemporary dynamic in relation to more-than-Western indigenous epistemologies, advocating for a pluriversal reckoning, considering European colonial histories and indigenous forms of cultural resistance. Having interrogated the asymmetric dynamic exchange between Africana and Western cultures, the volume then explores a &‘speculative manifesto&’. This manifesto proposes numerous concrete actions regarding future curriculum design and faculty representation within professional SCP trainings, championing a recalibration, decentring whiteness, making SCP a profession more open to and representative of diverse global communities. Honouring their historic, cultural, colonial, postcolonial and political experiences, alongside their contemporary narratives of migration, settlement and resistance to Western neocolonialism. Ultimately, advocating for an empathetic and celebratory, Black / Global Majority Heritage-inclusive SCP practice model.

A Transmedia Archaeology of Film Promotion Online: Horror Ballyhoo and Fantastic Nostalgia (Transmedia)
by Kim WaldenAt a time when more films are released annually than there are days in the year, films must compete for audience attention. As a result, promotional budgets have risen exponentially with online becoming the fastest growing sector. Film websites don’t just promote films, they chronicle backstories, map storyworlds, introduce characters and provide spaces for audiences to congregate. Yet as a hybrid of promotion, storytelling and community hub, these sites are ephemeral, and when the promotional work is done, they are often locked, taken down and disappear without trace. This book considers this emerging form: Where have film websites been collected and archived? What forms do these websites take? And how do audiences engage with film websites? Drawing on media archaeological methods as well as developing new strategies to investigate these intriguing media objects, this book suggests that film websites are worthy of consideration as cultural artefacts in their own right.|In Beyond the Screen (2014), Sarah Atkinson describes film sites as ‘new filmic objects’ and an ‘unparalleled cultural form’. This book makes these ‘new filmic objects’ its focus and sets out to discover more about them. The Producers Guild of America’s definition of transmedia practices extends to ‘narrative commercial and marketing roll outs’, so one way these ‘new filmic objects’ can be understood is as a kind of transmedia marketing. However, while there is no shortage of how-to manuals on transmedia storytelling and transmedia marketing, these practices remain under-theorised in the literature. So, this is what this book sets out to do.
Decolonizing the Museum: Art, Activism, and the Question of Race in Curation (Museums in Focus)
by Wayne Modest Chiara De Cesari Marta Pagliuca PelacaniThis book asks what it means to decolonize museums in theory and practice. It explores recent calls by activists and artists for social change in and through museums and how museums have responded to these calls and interventions. The point of departure for this volume is the burgeoning global debates around racism that have compelled many museums and public institutions to confront their complicity in colonialism, both past and present. Building on interviews with curators, cultural practitioners, activists, and artists, as well as the authors' ongoing involvement with movements aimed at decolonizing museums, this volume explores how anti-racist activism and artivism have transformed museums, as well as the broader social and political significance of these transformations. The book focuses on the practices, approaches, and strategies that are being adopted in efforts to decolonize museums and cultural institutions, where they succeed and fail, and the similarities and differences between these initiatives. It discusses specific exhibitions and whether they represent colonialism as a past phenomenon or as enduring racial logics forcefully shaping the present. It analyzes both mainstream European museums and grassroots, museum-like initiatives that aim to reckon with colonialism and race in different contexts. Core to the argument is the issue of how memory, heritage, and museum studies, the disciplines that explore, explain, and staff museums, have engaged or not with race.Decolonizing the Museum will be valuable for those studying or researching in the fields of museum studies, heritage, memory and art studies, decolonial theory, postcolonialism, race and racism, and cultural politics. Providing an important window into the political role of curators and the politics of race in transforming museums, it will also be beneficial to museum practitioners and activists and artists with a stake in these institutions.

Railways in the First World War, Volume 1 (Routledge Studies in Modern History)
by Andrea Giuntini and Henry JacolinThis book, the first in a two-volume work resulting from a 2018 conference organised by the International Railway History Association (IRHA), examines the relationship between the railways and the First World War from a global theoretical, methodological and geographical perspective.Although World War I (1914–1918) has been studied extensively from virtually every angle, the question of the railways has not been the subject of robust historical interest, despite their crucial role in every respect and at every stage. The war forced the railways to adopt more efficient techniques more quickly than they would have done in peacetime, to the extent where military operations would not have been possible without their massive and multifaceted help. This collection of essays brings together specialists in the field from a broad range of disciplines and backgrounds to demonstrate how this topic is integral to understanding the developments of European and world history throughout the 1910s and 1920s.Railways in the First World War will be a useful tool for students, scholars and non-specialist readers interested in the history of transport, the history of the First World War and World history.
Ethnography and Field Based Research in Education: A Methodological Plea
by Harpreet Kaur JassThis book explores the interlinkages between education and ethnography within the Indian context. It looks at the key role ethnography can play in understanding the fundamental issues within the discipline of education. It examines the complexities of undertaking ethnographic research in the field of education and pedagogy—from conceptualising to analysis and the final phase of writing your research. The volume discusses ethnography as an assistive tool, a method, and a research design to present the issues of educational debates on its disciplinary status and identifiable areas of study. The chapters weave a relevant premise to study what happens in schools from different vantage points such as psychology, anthropology, philosophy, and sociology. In a scenario where only a few works have used ethnography as a primary methodology to explore the nuances in education, this book discusses ethnographic methods and explains how it is conducted. The book also offers unique methods to analyse and write ethnographic data. The book will be of interest to students, researchers, and teachers of departments of education, anthropology, sociology of education, urban education, politics of education, and teacher education institutions.
