The Garden of the Shaped (Volume 1 of The Shaper Exile)
by Sheila FinchBanished to an uninhabited planet, a handful of genetic scientists prepare to live out eternity. Here, beyond the reach of their accusers, theory becomes reality. Experimenting with stolen human germ plasm, they shape mankind into races unlike anything Earth has ever seen: the whimsical Llani metamorphs, the inventive but rebellious Ganus, and the Rhodaru warriors with the truth sense. Once their great test has begun, the immortal geneticists agree never to interfere. But like the races they invent, the scientists are human. Still, nothing they do prepares the Llanis for the Ganu uprising 500 years later. Queen Sivell is young, but she possesses an unerring wisdom -- a trait rare in Llanis of any age. As she ascends to the throne, war has already begun. Sivell's own unique parentage and her newfound knowledge of her people's origins could bring peace to her world -- or death to her people!

The rage. The friendship. The loyalty. The betrayal. Together, they brace themselves for the brutal transition to manhood... and one will not survive. With all the dramatic brilliance he brought to The Great Santini, Pat Conroy sweeps you into the turbulent world of these four friends -- and draws you deep into the heart of his rebellious hero, Will McLean, an outsider forging his personal code of honor, who falls in love with a whimsical beauty and who undergoes a transition more remarkable then he ever imagined possible.

The True Story of Corky, the Blind Seal
by Georgeanne IrvineYoung children will love Corky, a harbor seal who is orphaned. After being rescued he goes to the San Diego zoo where he learns to perform in shows. One day he can't find the ball. Corky is blind! But don't worry, Corky learns how to do his tricks by using his other senses. School-age kids will love this book because it is a true story and would be fun to read for a science project or a book report. Do you know how harbor seals and sea lions are different. Parents will love this story because it is the finest piece of literature which I have seen for introducing children to the ways people who are blind learn to cope with the disability. Absolutely no mythology here! Corky learns to do the things he has been doing by using sounds, smells and touch. Children's literature at its best! This file should make an excellent embossed braillle book.
The World According to Me
by Jackie MasonFrom the book: The pages you are about to read come directly from a performance of my one-man show at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in New York City. Picture yourself in the audience, in the first row center . . . unless you can't afford that kind of seat ... so, the balcony. But wherever you are seated and ready to enjoy this book, it is important that you read this preface, because during the course of the book I'm going to ask you questions, just like I did to my live audiences. . . . And you better be prepared to give me answers because I have a way of checking up on you. On the printed page I might sound somewhat arrogant. However, if you see me in person when I say these things you will realize that I say them without disdain, but with love and compassion. So, if you're not a schmuck you won't take it personally. If you are, it won't bother you either because you won't know the difference. To tell you the truth, I not only call a person names but get applause as well, and even a standing ovation, which in all modesty I am getting on the stage every night. When you finish this book, if you don't stand up and applaud you have either missed the humor in it or you don't appreciate it when a person gives you such big laughs for such a small price. Anyway, sit back in your seat, wherever you are . . . try to be normal, and enjoy yourself.

Becoming a Woman of Excellence
by Cynthia HealdIn the book of Ruth, Boaz describes Ruth as being a woman of excellence. The book of Proverbs compares a woman of excellence to precious jewels. God Himself beckons us to become women of excellence. But what exactly is He asking? Does He intend for us to keep homes as beautiful as Martha Stuart or become women who lead ministries like Beth Moore? Can we even hope to reach the excellence that God invites us to reach for? This Bible study is designed for group or self-led study and explores what excellence really means in areas such as Surrender, Obedience, Discipline, Discretion, Wisdom, and Purity.
