Can parents sign up their child for an individual membership?

Yes, parents can sign up their own child.

To qualify for a free student membership for U.S. students, parents can enter their child’s school information during the sign-up process. All memberships for U.S. students are currently free through an award from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP). 

For children under 18:

  • Parent completes the online registration process with the child’s information and submits the Proof of Disability form signed by a Competent Authority. The parent then manages the account for the child.

For individuals over 18:

  • She or he needs to register online and personally agree to the terms of membership. The individual needs to submit Proof of Disability signed by a Competent Authority. The individual can manage his or her own account.
