How do I get books onto my BrailleNote?

If you are using a new BrailleNote Touch device, the easiest way is to use Go Read. Learn more here.

Otherwise, you'll need to use removable media such as a flash drive or memory card to copy books to a BrailleNote.

If copying a DAISY book, please do the following:

  1. Download the Daisy file from Bookshare.
  2. Unzip the book using an unzip utility. 
  3. Copy the entire unzipped books folder to the removable media.

If it's a BRF book, unzip it, then copy the BRF file to the removable media.

  1. Download the BRF file from Bookshare.
  2. Unzip the book using an unzip utility. 
  3. Copy the BRF file to the removable media.

You can read the book on the BrailleNote from the removable media by doing the following:

  1. Insert the removable media in to the device.  The BrailleNote refers to the flash drive as hard disk.
  2. To start Book Reader, press b (dots 12) from the main menu.
  3. To move to the list of available drives, Press Backspace.
  4. To move through the drives in the drive list, press Spacebar.
  5. When the desired removable media is announced, press Enter.
  6. When the "Read book in which folder" Press enter for the "none" prompt
  7. To move through the list of available books, press Spacebar
  8. When the desired book is announced, press Enter

Alternatively you can copy the book from the removable media to the BrailleNote's flash disk (internal hard drive) by doing the following:

To copy a DAISY book:

  1. To start File Manager, press f (dots 124) from the Main Menu.
  2. To start Folder Manager, press f (dots 124). 
  3. To start Copy Folder, press c (dots 14). 
  4. To move to the list of available drives, Press Backspace. 
  5. To move through the drives in the drive list, press Space bar. 
  6. When the desired removable media is announced, press Enter. 
  7. When the "folder to copy?" prompt is announced, press Space bar to list the available folders. 
  8. To move through the available folders, repeatedly press Space bar. 
  9. When the desired folder is spoken, press Enter. 
  10. When the "destination drive" prompt is spoken, press Space bar to list the available drives. 
  11. To move through the list of available drives, press Space bar. 
  12. When "FlashDisk" is announced, press Enter. 
  13. When the "copy contents of source folder into which folder?" prompt is spoken, press Space bar to list the available folders. 
  14. To move to the desired folder, press Enter (recommend General or My Books)

To copy a BRF book:

  1. To start File Manager, press f (dots 124) from the Main Menu.
  2. To start Copy File, press c (dots 13). 
  3. To move to the list of available drives, Press Backspace. 
  4. To move through the drives in the drive list, press Space bar. 
  5. When the desired removable media is announced, press Enter. 
  6. When the "source folder name" press Enter for none. 
  7. If the desired file is announced, press Enter otherwise, to list the available files, press Space bar. 
  8. When the desired file is spoken, press Enter. 
  9. When the "destination drive" prompt is spoken, press Space bar to list the available drives.
  10. Press enter for FlashDisk. 
  11. When the "destination folder name?" prompt is announced, accept the current folder or press Space bar to list the available folders (recommend General or My Books).
